Have the BEST holiday – 5 Oils to Help

Hooray!  There is a buzz in the air…finally the holiday season is upon us.

It’s time to live a little once again and holidays are being booked.

The break that you’ve worked so hard for all year round can pass too quickly.

I want to share with you some easy strategies to help you make the most of your holiday time and yes, of course, there are some amazing essential oils that can help but it’s not all about aromatherapy – it’s a lot about mindset and some easy preparation too.

BEFORE YOU GO

HOLIDAY PERSPECTIVE CHECK

A client of mine booked a lovely relaxing session of a facial and massage before her holiday.  When I asked her what she was doing the following day she said getting her nails done, going to the hairdressers then having lunch with friends.

I recognised a little stress in her voice as she reeled them off.  It sounded like she was talking about a list of chores.

I pointed this out and said that they sounded like relaxing and enjoyable activities – a day of pampering and socialising.

I suggested that she approaches the activities with a positive perspective.  She totally agreed and hadn’t realised what she was doing.

We are so switched on all the time. Demands from our family, work, our phones, smart watches, laptops, tablets, social media.  It can become easy to be ticking off a list of to do’s ALL the time.  With this kind of attitude fun activities can seem like a burden.

Avoid doing this and avoid giving yourself too many things to do in one day – even if they are considered fun! Give yourself a little space and check your perspective.

Aroma Tip

An excellent essential oil to help give clarity is Lemon.  It’s very refreshing and uplifting.  If you find yourself turning fun activities events into chores, diffuse some lemon oil and take a moment to pause and see how you really feel about them.

SMALL STEP HOLIDAY PREPARATION

Avoid leaving everything to the week or even the night before you go!

Spend 10 mins brainstorming what you need to do. Break down all your to do’s into manageable chunks of similar activities. For example…

  • Phone calls – to organise pet care, travel arrangements, book a taxi
  • Shopping – online and offline
  • Plan efficiently.  If you have to collect dry cleaning from one town and then do shopping in another town it’s sensible to plan all your errands in an efficient way to save time.  One round trip instead of lots of too-ing and fro-ing.

Aroma Tip

A great oil for getting stuff done which is good for concentration and memory is Rosemary.  Diffuse this in the room or just sniff a drop on a tissue before you start making that list or doing the tasks on it.

GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP THE NIGHT BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR YOUR HOLIDAY

HolidayThis can be easier said than done.

The excitement of a holiday can cause stress levels to heighten and extra stress hormones can interrupt your slumber.

A good way to wind down is to have an aromatherapy bath with some added magnesium from Epsom salts to help alleviate the stress.

Pre-Holiday Relaxation Bath Blend

3 drops pure organic Lavender oil

3 drops pure organic Frankincense oil

1 drop of pure organic Sweet Orange oil

10ml (2  teaspoons) pure organic Jojoba Oil

Blend the above together and pour into warm running water.

Add 1-2 large mugfuls of Epsom Salts to warm running water.

CAUTION: Never add neat essential oils to your bath (except for Lavender).  Consult a qualified aromatherapist for advice about blending. Certain essential oils are not suitable during pregnancy. Feel free to call 020 8419 8143 or message me for more advice.

WHILE YOU’RE AWAYLIVEBe present

Whether you are off on holiday on your own or with loved ones do your best to be present.  What do I mean?  Connect with your five senses.

  • What do you see?
  • What can you hear?
  • What can you smell?
  • What can you taste?
  • What can you feel?

Taking holiday photo with phoneIf, like me, you LOVE taking photos enjoy it and commit the views to your memory too, not just your phone!

Avoid sharing every moment on social media.

Enjoy the time with your friends, family or people you meet.

Enjoy your time alone.

There is plenty of time to share a photo album of your holiday on your return.

Aroma Tip

A wonderful essential oil and one of my favourite’s which is lovely for meditation, being present and just being able to pause is Frankincense.  Have a drop on a tissue and keep it in your pocket whilst your on holiday to help you remember to just BE.

Slow Down

The first holiday I went on with my husband was to a week in Greece and we planned trips and excursions for every single day.

We felt like we needed a holiday at the end of the holiday!

So remember a holiday is a great time to recharge and re-energise your body.  Yes, of course take in new experiences and activities but make sure it’s right for you, don’t overbook yourself or plan too much.

Aroma Tip

Rose Geranium is a lovely essential oil to help balance mind, body and emotions so try using this to help bring some balance into your holiday.
