Scents of Love: 8 Essential Oils for Valentine’s Day

Valentine's DayValentine's Day: Scents of Love

Ancient civilizations are well known for their use of fragrant essential oils to improve health and enhance beauty.

Essential oils are also known for their powerful aphrodisiac properties.

So, whether you have romantic plans for Valentine’s Day or you are having some quiet time just for yourself then consider aromatherapy as a key tool in creating the right mood.

It all depends upon the oils you choose!

So how does aromatherapy stir our deepest emotions?

The effect of smell powerfully influences the central nervous system.  Our sense of smell is directly linked to our brain stimulating emotions and memories, even influencing hormonal responses.

Aromatherapy oils could be the perfect way to relieve your mind of the stresses of the day.  At the same time, aromatherapy could help to stimulate an aphrodisiac response.

Essential Oils for Sensual Relaxation…

Rose is the queen of aromatherapy and its blossom is often used to symbolize beauty and love.   Many cultures use fresh rose petals to decorate the newly-weds’  bed.  This oil has an exquisitely strong fragrance and yet is gently sensual and tender.

Jasmine is the known as ‘king of flowers’ and is a supremely sweet-smelling sensual oil.  It is especially helpful in instilling confidence and lifting the mood.

Lavender - It used to be tradition to put lavender under the pillows of newlyweds to encourage passion.

Our locally sourced Carshalton Lavender oil is is soothing and relaxing, perfect to ease you in to a slow, playful & seductive mood.

Patchouli has a wonderful rich, woody and heady scent and great to add a masculine side to your blend.  This oil is helpful with relaxation and grounding, creating a space for intimacy.

Ylang Ylang flowerYlang Ylang is one of the most effective oils to reduce anxiety and stress.

We consider it to be aromatherapy’s rescue remedy.  It is also extraordinarily sensual with a sweet and seductive scent.

It can be a bit heady for some but this can easily be lifted by adding a citrus to your blend like Bergamot or Lemon.

In some cultures, Neroli (orange flower) blossoms are used to crown brides to help reduce pre‑wedding nerves.  This essential oil has a delicate bitter-sweet floral scent.

Essential Oils for Passion...

Black Pepper and Ginger are both very spicy and stimulating essential oils.  They are quite strong in their effect and scent so are used in lower dilutions than the sensual oils already mentioned.

These oils also have a warming effect on the body.

They should only be used undiluted in an oil burner or diffuser.

If you put them in a bath or are using them for massage then you must dilute them first in a base oil – like Jojoba oil for example.

Some essential oils like Jasmine are not suitable during pregnancy so always consult a qualified Aromatherapist if you are pregnant or suffer from any serious medical condition before using essential oils.
