Selfcare Solstice: The Season to Slow Down

Did you know it’s the season to slow down?

Season to Slow Down

With the lead up to Christmas and the end of another year it’s easy to get swept along in the race to get everything done.

Last week I was stuck in a car park that was almost gridlocked due to sheer volume of cars entering and some very slow-changing traffic lights.

Going with the flow
Instead of getting frustrated I chose to turn up the radio and enjoy sitting and just listening to the music.

Sometimes you need to go with the flow right and not push against it.

Other drivers chose to get frustrated and angry. Shame. Who needs extra stress hormones flying around in December?

Winter Solstice

Winter solstice, Wednesday 21st December is the shortest day of the year and comes from the latin words  “sol”, Sun, and  “sistere”, “to stand still”.

So here is some inspiration to honour the season to slow down and pause, I hope they inspire you to do just that!

Season to Slow DownReset your alarm

Sunrises and sunsets take a little longer over solstice, so why not mirror nature and set your alarm for 10 or 15 minutes later in the morning.

You can also try going to bed 15 minutes earlier than usual.  See how your body feels with this extra rest.

Solstice self care

Season t Slow Down

Put a date in your diary for some relaxation and renewal.

Light some candles, put your favourite music on, have a good soak in Epsom or Dead Sea salts.

Scrub away any dead skin cells and moisturise your whole body…. I promise you will feel refreshed and relaxed afterwards.

Bath Time Recipe

Add some Lavender, Frankincense, and Lemon oil for a relaxing, and cleansing soak.

10ml Jojoba Oil
2 drops Carshalton Lavender  oil
2 drops Lemon oil
3 drops Frankincense oil

Mix all oils together and add to warm running water.  Soak for a minimum of 15 minutes.

Enjoy home comforts

Whether it’s reading a good book, watching a film or simply talking with friends and loved ones, take some additional time indoors to really enjoy the simple things.

Season to Slow Down

Expand your breathe

Season to Slow Down

A great way to help your mind and body to slow down is to try and deepen your breathing.

Frankincense is a excellent oil to help you do this as research shows that it actually deepens breathing so it is the perfect essential oil for the job.

Have a drop on a tissue or use some in an oil burner or diffuser whilst practising this simple exercise…

Breathe in and count in your mind, for example 1001, 1002, 1003… PAUSE and then breathe out counting again.

Do your best to gently expand each breath and remember to pause in between.

Book yourself TIME OUT

I am someone who is not so good at doing nothing when I’m at home….unless I’m soaking in the bath or reading a good book.

I lead a fairly busy life and there’s always something to DO.

To make sure I walk my talk and balance my busy lifestyle out with some relaxation I book myself  ‘down time’ be it a massage or a meditation session, a yoga or Pilates class.

This is where I fully “switch off”, focusing solely on the class or the massage and this is what I encourage my clients to do as well.

What can you book for yourself regularly to take time out and help you slow down?

I hope you have found this blog useful, as always please feel free to leave a comment and share with us any tips you have for slowing down?

Until next time, take is easy, take it slow and take care of YOU!

Best wishes, Louisa
