- Top 6 Holiday Essential Oils
As an aromatherapy enthusiast I can’t travel without taking some essential oils with me.
Here I’ve shared my top 6 holiday essential oils that always accompany me on UK breaks and holidays abroad…
Keep calm on the journey with Ylang Ylang & Bergamot
I don’t know about you but I’ve never been a fan of flying so I always take De-Stress Aroma Roll on with me.
One of the best essential oils for calming panic and anxiety is Ylang Ylang and it really does work! It helps to slow your breathing and regulates a fast heart beat.
Bergamot is also helpful at reducing anxiety and lifts your mood.
Keep mosquitoes away with Citronella & Patchouli
Many essential oils work as good insect repellents and research shows that Citronella and Patchouli have had some excellent results so I thought I’d put them to the test.
I made a blend using Organic Jojoba Oil, Citronella and Patchouli so which did smell very strong.
The good news is that it worked. I am usually a feast for mosquitoes and on my last holiday I only got bitten twice, in odd place where I hadn’t applied the oil – for example the sole of one foot.
How do they work?
One of the reasons that these oils work so well together is that they not only repel the insects but they also mask our human scent which is what attracts mosquitoes in the first place!
Patchouli oil is a a fixative, which means it holds the scent of Citronella for longer.
How to use the oil?
Jojoba oil is light and easily absorbed and helps your body hold on too the scent more compared with a floral water spritz.
With natural insect repellents you do need to re-apply them a bit more often.
I did once in the evening and could feel the mosquitoes getting closer as it was wearing off after about 45-90 minutes.
Lavender essential oil has excellent skin healing properties.
It is the BEST essential oil for burns because it calms and soothes the skin and helps prevent scar formation.
Avoid getting sunburned for obvious reasons but it happens.
I always take Restore Luxury Body Oil with me – it is a fantastic aftersun skin repairing treatment.
Cell reparing Rosehip and Argan oils and anti-inflammatory Calendula plus eight more skin-nourishing ingredients.
My fiance cut his toe on a very sharp rock when we were out walking one day.
To treat this minor cut I put a drop of Tea Tree oil on a cotton bud and used it to clean the area.
It’s anti-bacterial and antiseptic and also has skin healing properties too so it’s the perfect oil for the job. Cut healed nicely without infection.
This oil is also superb for insect bites. It quickly calms inflammation and helps prevent infection.
So there you have them – my top 6 holiday essential oils.
