Stay Cool Naturally – 12 Simple Tips
With the current heatwave I thought you’d appreciate these 12 amazing tips to help you and your family stay cool naturally …
#1 Immerse your hands in cold water.
Fill a sink with cold water. Immerse your hands up to your wrists in it until you start to feel cooler. The large vein in your wrist helps cool your circulation. If you can’t fill a sink just hold your wrist under running cold water for a few seconds every couple of hours.
#2 Keep a spray bottle in the fridge ready to spritz your face and body when you need it. You could use a natural floral water for a calming & cooling all over body spritz. Peppermint floral water is a wonderfully cooling choice.
#3 Keep blinds or curtains closed during the day or the side of the house where the sun is shining. Only open windows on the side that is shaded to let the cool air in.
#4 Have a cool foot bath. Add 2-3 drops of Peppermint, Rosemary or Lemon essential oil to a teaspoon of carrier oil for a refreshing and cooling sensation. N.B. Rosemary essential oil is not suitable if you have high blood pressure or if you are pregnant. Always consult a qualified aromatherapist if you have a medical condition.
#5 Eat little and often and avoid large heavy meals. The reason for this is because when you eat a large meal your body, your metabolic rate increases to allow the digestion of food.
#6 Have a luke warm bath or shower. It’s tempting to have a cold shower but your body will try and heat up to compensate for the cold soon after. Go for something that feels just below your body temperature instead.
#7 Freeze a bottle of water and take it out with you so it remains cold for longer.
#8 Prepare a cold compress with a drop of spearmint oil in it and place it across your forehead (avoid direct contact with your eyes). The scent will open your sinuses and help you feel cooler as well.
#9 Have a water fight! Wet clothes in hot weather really help the body to cool down! Without getting too technical the process that causes the water to evaporate will help the body adjust itself to a lower temperature.
#10 Swap your duvet for a sheet and keep the sheet in the freezer.
#11 Cool your senses by applying my Clear Aroma Pulse Point Roll to your pulse points and forehead for a Peppermint fresh effect.
#12 Avoid cooking indoors. It’s a great time for a BBQ or switch to cold meals if that’s not an option.
