Hot Weather Skincare: 6 Ways to Keep Skin Calm and Hydrated

Hot Weather Skincare: 6 Simple Ways to Keep Skin Calm, Fresh and Hydrated

Hot weather can leave skin feeling dehydrated, congested, sensitive and uncomfortable, especially during a heatwave.

Sweat, sunscreen, pollution, air conditioning and extra cleansing can all affect the skin barrier, while heat can make skin feel oilier on the surface yet dehydrated underneath.

Here are a few simple ways to help keep your skin calm, comfortable and balanced during warmer weather.

01

Mist, don’t skip hydration

Keep a facial mist or floral water in the fridge and spritz throughout the day for an instant cooling boost.

Peppermint floral water feels wonderfully refreshing in hot weather, while lavender floral water can help skin feel calmer and more soothed.

Facial mists can also work beautifully as part of your skincare routine. Try misting skin after cleansing and before moisturiser or facial oil to add an extra layer of hydration.

02

Layer your skincare properly

Hydrating layers help support the skin barrier and keep skin feeling comfortable, while SPF helps protect against UV damage and the visible signs of premature skin ageing.
This is why layering your skincare matters.

Your moisturiser is where many of your nourishing botanical oils, antioxidants and active ingredients are delivered first, helping support the skin before you apply sun protection on top.

For example, Simply Nourish Face Moisturiser and Nourish Floral Face Moisturiser contain beautifully nourishing plant oils and skin-loving ingredients designed to help keep skin soft, comfortable and hydrated.

Apply your moisturiser first, allow it a moment to settle into the skin, then follow with SPF 30 or above during the day.

03

Support your skin barrier

Hot weather, over-cleansing, exfoliating too often and air-conditioning can all leave the skin barrier feeling stressed.

When this happens, skin may feel tight, reactive, dry or more sensitive than usual.

Look for gentle, hydrating ingredients that help support the skin barrier and keep moisture levels balanced, especially during hot weather.

Ingredients such as glycerine act as humectants, meaning they help attract water to the skin and help it feel more hydrated and comfortable without heaviness.

Our Simply Nourish Face Moisturiser, contains Saccharide Isomerate, a plant-derived ingredient sometimes referred to as a “moisture magnet” because it helps bind hydration to the skin for longer-lasting comfort.

The moisturiser also contains gentle plant-based emulsifiers which help give the cream a soft, silky feel on the skin without leaving it feeling heavy or greasy in warmer weather.

If your skin feels dehydrated, tight or heat-stressed during summer, these types of ingredients can help leave it feeling softer, calmer and more comfortable

04

Cool overheated skin gently

A cool, damp cloth across the forehead, neck or shoulders can instantly help skin feel more comfortable during hot weather.

You can also place chilled cucumber slices or cooled chamomile tea bags over the eyes for a soothing, refreshing feel.

A cool cloth can even be laid gently across the whole face or forehead for a few quiet moments of calm when skin feels hot or flushed.

05

Keep skin clean without stripping it

In summer, sweat, SPF, pollution and excess oil can build up more quickly and leave skin feeling congested.

It’s important to cleanse twice a day and take a little more time during your evening cleanse.

Gentle cleansing in the evening helps remove the day properly without disrupting the skin barrier.

Avoid harsh scrubs or over-cleansing though.

Skin that feels squeaky-clean is often skin that has been over-stripped.

06

Soothe heat-stressed skin with botanicals

When skin feels warm, dehydrated or overexposed after a hot day, certain botanical oils and plant extracts can feel especially comforting and nourishing.

Ingredients such as Calendula and Lavender are often chosen for their soothing properties.

Rosehip Oil is loved for its nourishing and skin-softening properties and is naturally rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants. Argan Oil helps condition and replenish skin that feels dry or heat-stressed, while Vitamin E helps support the skin barrier and moisture levels.

Together, these beautiful botanical ingredients help leave skin feeling softer, smoother and more comfortable after time in the sun.

Macadamia Nut Oil is another beautiful oil for summer skincare because it is naturally rich in palmitoleic acid, a fatty acid also found naturally within the skin.

This gives it a soft, conditioning feel without feeling overly heavy in warmer weather. you’ll find some of these skin-loving botanicals in Calm Carshalton Lavender Facial Oil and Restore Luxury Body Oil, which are both lovely for helping skin feel nourished, comfortable and cared for during the summer months.

Hi Zita, that depends upon where you buy it from. I can source 250ml Carshalton Lavender floral water for you and that is a 250ml bottle.
